Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Secondary – SEND – Walsall

A welcoming and supportive secondary school in Walsall is recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their SEND unit. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a school with excellent behaviour, an outstanding SENCO, and a strong reputation for supporting both students and staff.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the learning and development of students with additional needs, working closely with the SENCO, teachers, and a dedicated team of teaching assistants. You will provide targeted support in lessons, deliver small group interventions, and contribute to the planning and assessment of SEND provision. The role also involves mentoring other teaching assistants, modelling best practice, and helping to create a positive and structured environment where every student can thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting students with SEND across Key Stages 3 and 4 in lessons and small group sessions.
  • Delivering tailored interventions to help students make progress academically and socially.
  • Working with the SENCO to plan and evaluate SEND provision.
  • Supporting behaviour management strategies and promoting positive engagement.
  • Guiding and mentoring teaching assistants within the SEND unit.
  • Building strong relationships with students, staff, and families to ensure consistent support.
Ideal candidate
  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with SEND students, ideally in a secondary setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to support and mentor other staff effectively.
  • A commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
