A well-regarded specialist SEND school in South Shields is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide class-based support and targeted interventions for pupils with complex needs. You will work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote an inclusive learning environment. We’re supporting a well-regarded specialist SEND school in South Shields, known for its nurturing environment and commitment to pupil wellbeing. They cater for pupils with a range of complex needs, including learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
They are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team and help deliver both class-based support and small group interventions.
The role includes:
Assisting the teaching team with personalised learning plans
Leading small group activities and targeted interventions
Building positive, supportive relationships with pupils
Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
Promoting an inclusive and engaging learning environment
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience as a TA or HLTA, ideally within SEND settings
Be confident leading learning activities independently and with groups
Be patient, adaptable, and resilient, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people
Hold or be willing to complete Thrive training
Have a strong understanding of additional needs and the importance of pupil-centred support
