About The Role

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) at Craig y Parc School is an integral part of our team. The HLTA supports the education and development of all pupils, contributing to learning plans, maintaining pupil data and maintaining the learning environment. They provide invaluable support to pupils through delivering targeted interventions and support the wider learning support team where needed, using their experience and expertise to offer guidance and advice.

Hours

8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)

Contract

37.5 hours per week

Salary

£21,725 – £23,565 per annum

Role Overview

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will assist class teachers, lead lessons when required, and contribute to creating an inclusive and stimulating environment where pupils can achieve their full potential.

Main Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning Support
  • Assist the Class Teacher in delivering high-quality lessons and learning activities.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver assigned programmes for individuals, small groups, or whole classes, adapting activities as needed.
  • Provide engaging and differentiated educational experiences to support pupil progress.
  • Take responsibility for leading classes in the absence of the teacher.
  • Select and adapt resources to facilitate learning and reinforce key concepts.
  • Support curriculum development, classroom organisation, displays, ICT integration, and risk assessments.
  • Contribute to individual pupil plans and attend review meetings when required.
  • Build positive relationships with parents/carers and provide constructive feedback on pupil progress.
  • Take on an additional area of responsibility such as risk assessment coordination, manual handling, ICT, or MDT link.
Pupil Welfare and Safeguarding
  • Safeguard and promote pupil welfare in line with school policies, including PREVENT.
  • Monitor behaviour and wellbeing, intervening when necessary and maintaining accurate records.
  • Encourage independence and personal development while maintaining high standards of behaviour.
  • Support pupils’ physical, emotional, and social needs, including personal care when required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to deliver therapy or care programmes.
Monitoring and Assessment
  • Assess, record, and report on pupil progress and development.
  • Provide meaningful feedback to pupils and teachers.
  • Ensure all documentation relating to health, behaviour, and incidents is completed accurately.
