Job description

Driver Hire Stockport is recruiting on behalf of our client based in Glossop for a qualified HGV Mechanic. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, well-established transport business on an ongoing basis, with the potential for a permanent role.

As an HGV Mechanic, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of HGV vehicles and trailers. You'll need to be confident in diagnosing electrical faults, preparing vehicles for MOTs, and carrying out routine servicing and major repairs.

An HGV licence is preferred but not essential, and while previous HGV experience is ideal, full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Routine maintenance and repairs on HGV vehicles and trailers
• Diagnosing and fixing mechanical and electrical faults
• Preparing vehicles/trailers for MOTs
• Replacing or repairing major components
• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations
• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
• Communicating effectively with the Transport Team regarding defects and repairs

Shift Pattern

Rotating weekly pattern (12-hour shifts | 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with 1-hour lunch):

• Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday
• Week 2: Thursday & Friday only

Requirements

• Fully qualified mechanic or significant experience in HGV maintenance
• Own tools and boiler suit required
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Understanding of Health & Safety standards
• Flexibility to adapt to a varied workload

What We Offer

• £21.03 per hour (equivalent to £36,228 per year)
