Healthcare Assistant (HCA) Warwick House Medical Centre, Taunton

Symphony Healthcare Services (Symphony) has a vacancy for a permanent, part-time Healthcare Assistant (HCA) who is both compassionate and motivated, to join their friendly and supportive general practice (GP) team at Warwick Medical Centre in Taunton, Somerset.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, be a good team player, and be able to assist colleagues to ensure the highest possible standard of care is provided to our registered patients.

This is a permanent, part-time vacancy for 18 hours per week. Working pattern (days and times) will be discussed at interview.

The rate of pay for this role is £12.65 to £12.95 per hour. Starting salary will be offered based on previous experience.

Main duties of the job

As an HCA in a GP setting, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical team in the day-to-day running of the practice.

Working under the guidance of the nursing team and GPs, you will carry out a range of clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, health checks, minor dressings, and assisting with chronic disease management.

You will also contribute to the overall patient experience by providing reassurance, health promotion advice, and practical support throughout their visit.

This role is ideal for someone with previous HCA experience, preferably in primary care or community health, who is enthusiastic, organised, and committed to making a difference in the lives of patients.

Good IT skills are required, and knowledge of EMIS Web would be desirable. The post holder must also be willing to undertake any training required to further develop their skills and competencies

The role bridges patient care and operational support, focusing on patient comfort, health promotion, and maintaining clinical environments.

Job responsibilities

As a Symphony HCA, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • New patient health checks BMI
  • UrinalysisECG
  • RecordingINR
  • Monitoring using Coagucheck and INR StarTo undertake Doppler testing
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring following practice hypertension guidelines, issueHBPM in accordance with practice policy
  • Phlebotomy including perform annual blood tests, BP, BMI, ACR as requestedfor patients with chronic diseases
  • Urinalysis MSU, ACR in accordance with practice policy.
  • Wound Care suture removal in accordance with practice policy,
  • Weight Management
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
  • Administer influenza vaccines according to PSD
  • Administer B12 injections according to PSD
  • Undertake Spirometry for GP to interpret results.
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and afterpatient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance ofminor operations, coils and implants
