Job Summary

An exciting vacancy for a part‑time Health Care Assistant (HCA) to work 3 days per week (approximately 24 hours over Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). You will have general practice experience including phlebotomy and NHS health checks. Salary is dependent on experience.

Main Duties

Work alongside the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, as part of the multidisciplinary team. Deliver care within your scope to the patient population and assist clinical staff in treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

About Us

We are a friendly rural practice with an approximate list size of 5,300. Our team includes four GP’s, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner, one Clinical Pharmacist, two Practice Nurses, a supportive patient services team and two Practice Managers. We are a dispensing practice with access to Clinical Pharmacists, a Personalised Care Team and First Contact Physio through our PCN. We scored very highly in our patient practice survey and have an excellent Patient Participation Group. Work‑life balance is important and we offer a manageable workload. We use SystmOne.

Job Responsibilities
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the nursing team with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and record findings accurately
  • Undertake wound care, uncomplicated dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support nursing team with management of chronic disease clinics (long‑term condition reviews)
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone when required
  • Venepuncture
  • When trained, administer flu vaccinations and other immunisations such as B12 under guidance of the Nursing Team
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Ensure correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
  • Provide support during minor operations, ensuring consent is received
  • Ensure clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Record fridge temperatures and adhere to cold chain policy
  • Manage clinical waste and replace sharps bins in accordance with IPC policy
  • Maintain accurate patient records on SystmOne
  • Send samples to the laboratory in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary
  • Remove sutures and staples if competent to do so
  • Carry out urinalysis
  • Assist with Doppler investigations and taking stocking measurements if competent to do so
