An exciting opportunity has arisen at Brent Renal Centre for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team as a Band 3.

Brent Renal Centre provides care for 130 patients requiring maintenance haemodialysis. We have 27 stations and run three shifts Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 7:00-00:00 midnight and 2 shifts Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from 7:00-19:00.

This is a physically demanding role in a fast‑paced environment with excellent learning opportunities. We are looking for a candidate who enjoys working with patients and equipment. The majority of your time will be spent setting up / stripping down machines for dialysis, as well as direct patient care.

No previous experience is necessary as training is provided, though experience in a healthcare environment would be advantageous.

This post attracts outer London weighting.

Candidates will have to attend an assessment centre and if successful they will proceed to interview.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome and escort patients from the waiting area into the dialysis unit.
  • Assist patients and ambulance staff to mobilise and/or transfer onto and out of haemodialysis chairs, in accordance with the patient’s individual manual handling risk assessment and plan of care.
  • Record and document physiological measurements of temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation for patients prior to, during and following dialysis treatment.
  • Monitor, record and report blood glucose levels of patients with diabetes and assist the registered nurse to ensure the patient’s blood sugar is managed according to the individual’s care plan and in accordance with the blood sugar monitoring Trust policy.
  • Report adverse reactions to treatment and significant changes in observations to the registered nurse. Assist nursing staff to minimise risk to the health, safety of patients.
  • Maintenance of a safe working environment.
  • Promote, monitor and maintain a working environment that is safe and clean for attending patients and staff.
  • Promote, monitor and maintain the safety and security of the ward environment and promptly report faulty equipment to registered nurse according to ward policy and procedure.
  • Assist registered staff to minimise the risk from blood borne viruses and other pathogens and apply all universal precautions to protect patients and staff from cross infection in the ward environment.
