Job summary

A local healthcare practice in Norwich is looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join their supportive team. This role involves providing direct patient care, including blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, and wound care, while educating patients on lifestyle choices. Ideal candidates will have relevant qualifications, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in a clinical setting. Applications for part-time or full-time roles, ranging from 25 to 37 hours per week, will be considered.

Qualifications

LakenhamSurgery is currently seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportivepractice.

PreviousHCA experience in a GP Practice is highly desirable, however, applications may beconsidered if the relevant skills can be demonstrated through alternative experience.

The successful applicant will need excellent interpersonal and communicationskills and should be willing to upskill further as required. The role would suit a goodteam player who is able to provide support and help to colleagues to ensurethat we provide the best possible care to our patients.

The successful candidate would need to use a computer and a variety of software packages in the performance of their role. Therefore, keyboard skills along withthe ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload are necessary.

Part-Time or Full Time Considered - 25 to 37 Hours per Week.

Job responsibilities
  • BP monitoring
  • To undertake duties associated with 24 hour blood pressure monitoring to fitting and downloading from patient
  • Carry out ECGs
  • Conduct new patient health checks and NHS health checks
  • Reviewing patients with Long Term Conditions to record routine measurements, offering disease management advice in accordance with the practice's clinical protocols.
  • Obtaining specimens eg urine, and testing as instructed and completing appropriate laboratory forms and contacting patients to follow up results.
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses, ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
  • Weight monitoring
  • Routine Preventative Immunisations
  • INR monitoring and the use of INR star (training will be given)
  • Basic wound care/leg ulcer care
  • Removal of sutures
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Clearing and re-stocking nursing rooms
  • To monitor usage of sharps bins, ensuring that rooms are adequately stocked and bins are transferred to storage for collection
  • Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted, provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the Practice
  • Ordering and display of health promotional materials
  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice infection control policy
  • To order supplies as directed by the nursing and management team
  • Undertake housekeeping duties, including general tidiness and cleanliness of clinical rooms
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Such other administrative or clinical duties that maybe required from time to time by the Partners, Nursing Team and the Managerial Team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C (or equivalent) to include Maths and English
  • Certified competency in Phlebotomy
  • Completion of Care Certificate
Experience
  • Experience of working in a patient care setting
  • Experience of working within confidentiality and Information Governance protocols
  • Experience of working in Primary Care
  • Clinical skills to include Blood Pressure monitoring, Phlebotomy, wound care, administering immunisations, contributing to Long Term Condition reviews
