An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCA to contribute to the integrated neurodevelopmental pathway in Oxleas. Working across the Greenwich and Bexley teams the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting diagnostic assessments for ADHD and ASD and supporting the ongoing physical monitoring of children and young people on medication.

You will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team that includes Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Community Paediatricians, an Advanced Pharmacist, Clinical Associate Psychologists and an HCA.

We require a motivated individual with a keen interest in improving services for children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions and an ability to adapt quickly to change. The applicant will have good interpersonal skills and an ability to work well as part of a team. They will also have good computer skills and competence in using digital technology.

Hours of work will be predominantly 09.00 – 17.00 with flexibility to work between the hours of 08.00 – 18.00 occasionally to meet the needs of the service. Operational management is provided by the Team Leader for the Greenwich ADHD team.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Work as a member of the IND ADHD team, providing support in the assessment and ongoing management of children and young people with ADHD and ASD.
  • Support diagnostic assessments for ADHD by administering an objective assessment tool and collating information from families, schools and other sources.
  • Provide the multi‑disciplinary team with the information gathered to support clinical decision making about diagnosis.
  • Be competent in undertaking physical monitoring of children and young people (blood pressure, pulse, height and weight).
  • Liaise with the multi‑disciplinary team and inform them of any changes to a child or young person’s condition.
  • Carry out all duties within good practice guidelines.

Job Responsibilities
  • Administer an assessment tool for ADHD (QB Test) following training.
  • Check and maintain a safe environment; be familiar with all equipment required to support the child and report any deficiency immediately.
  • Complete physical monitoring of young people, such as height, weight, pulse and blood pressure, and record these accurately.
  • Identify any concerns about a child or young person’s physical health and report to the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Regularly liaise with the multi‑disciplinary team and present complex and sensitive information in a clear way.
  • Work as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team and with other professionals or representatives of voluntary organisations who also work with young people with ADHD, ASD and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, senior staff, families, carers and young people.
  • Make verbal and written reports as required, ensuring these are kept up to date.
  • Keep accurate and clear records and maintain timely and up‑to‑date reports in the family-held record.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Qualifications: Education to GCSE level or equivalent; NVQ level 3 in health and social care or equivalent.
  • Experience: Experience of working with children and young people.
  • Skills: Ability to communicate in a clear, effective and compassionate manner with children, young people and their families; maintain confidentiality; demonstrate motivation, reliability, commitment and good organisational skills.
Desirable
  • Training in Autism and/or ADHD.
  • Experience of working with children or young people with disability and/or complex health needs.
