Healthcare Assistant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Assistant with a special interest in the care of the elderly. Longridge ward at Cuerden is a 15 bedded unit that focuses on providing high quality care for patients from within the local adult population with sub-acute health care needs. We are a step up/step down facility that supports recovery and recuperation following medical and surgical illness and also provides palliative/end of life care and manages the planning of complex discharge packages.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced health care assistant to join our team. You will need to be committed to delivering a high standard of care and support change management. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who will motivate, inspire and promote patient safety whilst supporting the ward team to achieve its clinical outcomes.

The postholder will be an advocate for our patients and be able to identify changes in need and report these to the nurse in charge/ward sister.

You will be able to complete simple tasks allocated to you on the ward that will support the registered nurses. You will be keen to learn new skills and encourage other staff to adhere to the trust values so that the patients receive holistic care.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the 24 hour ward based nursing team, under the direct supervision of the ward sister/nurse in charge, providing high quality holistic care to patients.

The Health Care Assistant will work without direct supervision providing care to patients in the ward setting, as delegated by the nurse in charge following appropriate training and supervision to ensure clinical competence and safe effective care.

To support other health care professionals in the provision of high quality care in the ward setting.

Feedback to the registered practitioner any changes in patients condition that indicate reassessment of care needs.

Support the patients to achieve their optimum potential by promoting independence and self-care as appropriate.

Work with other health care colleagues, voluntary and statutory organisation to ensure that the holistic needs of parties are met wherever possible.

To act as an advocate to facilitate the views and choices expressed by patients and their carers.

Work in a professional manner providing high-quality patient care.

Maintain effective communication both with and outside of the clinical team to ensure that patient needs are met.

To communicate with patients and carers to maximise their involvement and understanding of their condition, care and treatment.
