Job Introduction

Are you passionate about creating safe and compliant environments? East Durham College is seeking a proactive Health, Safety & Compliance Advisor to join our team and help promote a positive health and safety culture across all campuses.

About The Role

You’ll provide expert advice, guidance, and support on all health, safety, environmental, and compliance matters. From monitoring statutory compliance to conducting audits and investigations, this role is key to ensuring the college meets legal requirements and maintains best practice standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and advise on control measures.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, reporting under RIDDOR where required.
  • Deliver health and safety inductions, audits, and toolbox talks.
  • Support staff and students with Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).
  • Prepare reports and contribute to the Health & Safety Committee.
Essential Requirements
  • NEBOSH Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • GCSE standard education (Maths & English).
  • Previous experience in a health & safety role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and risk management.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and IT skills.
Desirable
  • Fire safety and environmental qualifications/experience.
  • Membership of IOSH.
  • Experience in education/public sector and multi-site environments.
  • Full UK driving licence and/or access to a vehicle.
