An exciting opportunity has arisen for a health care support worker to join our Special Needs School Nursing Team in Staffordshire.

The team provides care for pupils with a wide range of learning disabilities, physical disabilities and neurological conditions within a Special Needs School setting. Working as a member of a friendly, highly skilled team you will have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children and young people who have special needs and their families. You will be instrumental in realising our vision to constantly strive to improve the healthcare provision within the special schools and be an integral part of the Special School Nursing Team to enable these children to fully access education and so reach their full potential.

The successful applicant will be based in South Staffordshire primarily working across the Tamworth, Cannock/Wombourne, and Lichfield areas with occasional cover in the North of Staffordshire. You will work with the nursing team to provide support to children and young people in the special schools.

It is essential that you have access to reliable transport for this position.

Responsibilities
  • To assist with nursing care including some clinical procedures, as set out in the care plan and following appropriate training.
  • To perform basic assessments, treatments, procedures and therapeutic interventions as delegated and under the direction of the Special School Nurse.
  • To ensure accurate documentation of care as directed by qualified staff within the nursing care plan.
  • To develop clinical competency and skills through the completion of competency based training, and to maintain skills through regular re‑assessment and training.
  • To demonstrate sensitivity to the children and young people and family's needs by respecting privacy and dignity whilst maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
  • To work using own initiative within special schools under minimal supervision following a period of supervised practice.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative individual who possesses excellent communication skills. The candidate will have to be able to prioritise and organise their own workload without supervision and work well as part of a team to ensure that a highly confidential, efficient, quality service is provided. You need to be flexible and respond positively to changes in allocated work and deadlines at short notice.
