Job description

Following the planned separation from Smiths Group and acquisition by CVC Capital Partners, we are building a standalone finance function to support our next chapter of growth. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the Treasury function for a newly independent global business.

The Role

As Head of Treasury, you will have overall responsibility for Smiths Detection’s financing strategy and operations. This is a critical leadership role, tasked with designing and implementing a new Treasury function from the ground up. You will manage liquidity, foreign exchange risk, funding structures, and treasury systems to ensure robust financial control and compliance across a global footprint.

This role can be based in either Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, or London, Blackfriars.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish the Treasury function in Smiths Detection: Smiths Group Plc has announced its intention to sell Detection to CVC Capital Partners (“CVC”). Currently Detection relies on Smiths Group for treasury activities. As a part of the separation, Detection will need to set up its own Treasury team and function. This role will work closely with Smiths Group Treasury, Detection Finance, Tax and Senior Leadership to help design and establish the Detection Treasury function, and be responsible for its effective running during and after separation.
  • Liquidity management: Implement a robust short‑term cashflow forecasting model across the Detection group. Implement a cash management structure to maximise central treasury control of cash. Review and implement cashpool arrangements where appropriate. Ensure effective cash repatriation. Ensure compliance with covenants, including overlays and headroom analysis.
  • Management of FX exposure, hedging and resulting accounting: Identify, assess and mitigate current and future financial risk using appropriate accounting techniques and hedge accounting relationships under IFRS9 Financial Instruments. Maintain IFRS technical oversight, ensuring compliance and accurate accounting entries across debt, derivatives and intercompany loans within Treasury. Ensure financial instruments are accurately reflected in interim and annual financial statements with high quality disclosures, overseeing treasury accounting.
  • Intragroup funding: Design and oversee intercompany loan structures within Detection, ensuring that they are operating effectively and in line with Detection’s financing strategy. Review the feasibility of an intercompany netting programme or system, and oversee its implementation if required.
  • Treasury database: Establish a database for the management of Detection’s treasury function, including monitoring bonds & guarantees, intercompany loans and external loan commitments. Review the feasibility of a treasury management system and oversee its implementation if approved.
  • Credit and trade finance lines: Oversight of credit and trade finance lines to support the business needs, including for bonds and guarantees. Oversight of interest rate and FX management globally.
  • Policy management: Ownership of the Detection treasury policies and their ongoing management. Update and re‑write policies, where required, to support Detection’s future Treasury function separate from Smiths Group.
  • Global internal relationship management: Build strong relationships built on trust across the Detection group and with its new parent organisation, including other central departments and finance staff globally. Ensure that Detection’s financing strategy and operations are in line with its tax strategy and structure.
  • Management of the Detection Treasury Analyst: including setting objectives and performance reviews, training and development in role etc.
  • Ad hoc: Ownership of treasury improvement projects and drive them forward.
  • You should note that your title and job description are not exhaustive and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake other reasonable tasks within your capacity.
