Job description
Overview

Head of Platform for Cloud to lead our infrastructure engineering teams. This pivotal role will oversee the implementation and operational management of both our cloud platforms and on-premises technologies, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and secure. With a current hybrid configuration and an ambitious migration plan over the next three years, this is a truly exciting time to join DHCW and lead a large infrastructure-focused engineering team of over 30 staff. As well as the cloud platforms you will also be responsible for the existing on-premises estate of Server/storage, SQL, Linux, and Citrix platforms.

Qualifications And Skills
  • Proven experience and knowledge of on-premises infrastructure and cloud platform (Azure and GCP) management and architecture.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Compassionate leader, embracing the mentoring role, and supporting career pathways
  • In depth understanding of ITSM processes for managing operational teams
  • Understanding, experience, and desire to streamline through automation and use of Infrastructure as Code (IAC).
  • Skilled at both reviewing and developing complex technical and business level documents
Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert for multiple engineering disciplines and escalation point for the team.
  • Lead and manage resources, including recruitment and discipline issues.
  • Work with senior infrastructure leadership to design, implement, and operate services.
  • Plan and oversee major budgets.
  • Ensure KPIs are met, services are continually optimised, resilient, cyber improved and maintain technical documentation.
  • Actively participate, align with audit processes such as ISO27001.
  • Implement new services with best practice, approved by Technical Design Authority Group, providing constructive feedback as appropriate.
  • Manage installation and resilience testing of cloud and on premises infrastructure.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate operational risks, including options papers for complex risks.
  • Effectively manage assets and lifecycle of infrastructure.
  • Represent department, directorate, or business in wider meetings inside and outside NHS Wales.
