Overview

Seeking a proactive Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a growing engineering business near Stansted. Reporting directly to senior management, you will take ownership of financial activities, ensure compliance, and provide clear, accurate reporting to support decision-making. You will manage one team member and will drive process improvement in a dynamic SME environment.

£50,000 - £60,000 per annum (DOE)

Hours

Week 1: Mon–Thu 07:30–17:00, Fri 07:30–13:30; Week 2: Mon–Thu only, 07:30–17:00. Average of 39 hours per week.

Applicants must already hold the right to live and work in the UK without any future need for sponsorship.

Main Responsibilities
  • Prepare and present management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
  • Oversee sales and purchase ledger, invoices, and statements.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and HMRC reporting.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors.
  • Drive efficiency improvements in systems and processes.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within an SME or engineering environment.
  • Proficient in Sage 200
  • Knowledge of Aerotrac software would be advantageous.
  • Strong background in management accounts, cash flow, and forecasting.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident in leading a small team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly.
