Position Overview

The Head of Finance will take full ownership of the financial strategy and operational performance for the UK and European businesses. Reporting directly to the Group Board, you will be responsible for steering the organisation\'s financial planning, reporting, investment decisions, and risk management. Your insights will shape critical business decisions, including mergers and acquisitions, capital expenditure, and cost optimisation strategies.

This is a strategic yet hands-on role for an elite candidate who can operate at board level while remaining operationally grounded. You will lead a finance function that delivers actionable insight, ensures compliance, and drives sustainable financial performance across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Lead financial strategy across the UK and European operations, ensuring alignment with group objectives.
  • Provide board-level insight, translating complex financial data into actionable recommendations.
  • Shape business strategy through financial planning, scenario analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships, providing financial due diligence and integration guidance.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes across all entities.
  • Monitor and analyse financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate management and statutory reporting for all jurisdictions.
  • Develop financial models to support strategic business decisions and investment planning.
  • Operational Finance & Cost Control
  • Drive cost-efficiency initiatives across operations, including multi-site manufacturing processes.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies, implement cost control mechanisms, and optimise resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to ensure financial discipline and profitability.
  • Investment & Growth Strategy
  • Evaluate and prioritise capital expenditure and strategic investment opportunities.
  • Provide financial analysis for potential M&A transactions, including post-acquisition integration planning.
  • Support long-term growth strategy through data-driven financial insight and scenario modelling.
  • Tax & Risk Management
  • Oversee tax planning strategies to minimise liabilities and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ensure robust internal controls, governance processes, and financial compliance standards.
  • Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing finance team.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and banks.
  • Communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance colleagues to support strategic decision-making.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Fully qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of senior financial management experience, including at least 5 years overseeing multi-entity, multi-country operations.
  • Proven expertise in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Extensive experience managing multi-currency P&L and balance sheet responsibilities.
  • Strong operational finance skills with a history of delivering strategic cost savings and margin improvement.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities with experience translating complex financial data into clear strategy.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel modelling.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • MBA or equivalent post-graduate business qualification.
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement certification.
  • Experience in supply chain finance or working capital optimisation at a group level.
  • Direct involvement in M&A transactions from due diligence to integration.
