Head of Estates (Temporary Contingent)

Location: Ofsted rated Good further education college in Greater London (Southwark)

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week

Start: 12/01/2026 (ASAP)

Duration: Until Spring half term with potential extension

Role Summary

The Head of Estates will lead and manage the college s estates services team, ensuring facilities are safe, well maintained and ready to support high quality teaching and learning. You will oversee a wide range of estates and maintenance functions, working closely with senior leadership and external partners to deliver strategic improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the estates services team to deliver a high standard, compliant estate.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance programmes across the campus.
  • Support budget management for estates, including forecasting expenditure and controlling costs.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, premises regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to plan and deliver facilities improvements.
  • Provide strategic insight into estates development aligned with operational college priorities.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Strong technical knowledge of estates management, building services and facilities
  • Proven experience in maintenance planning and estates operations within education or a similar complex environment
  • Solid understanding of budget planning and financial control
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively
Desirable
  • Broader estates or operations experience in a support capacity
  • Willingness to develop into broader strategic responsibility
