Overview

Bedales School is a leading independent boarding school in Hampshire, renowned for its innovative, student‑centred learning and strong academic ethos. The School seeks an inspiring, enthusiastic Head of Department to lead the Economics & Business department and play a key role in the wider life of the busy boarding community.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop and inspire the Economics & Business department, ensuring it remains engaging, relevant and innovative.
  • Plan, design and implement schemes of work, monitoring student progress and supporting pupils to attain their optimum potential.
  • Work collaboratively with colleague teachers to foster a positive, inclusive departmental culture, encouraging staff to work together towards departmental outcomes.
  • Play a full and inclusive role in the boarding community, contributing to pastoral care, co‑curricular activities and the overall development of the School.
  • Support the School’s boarding commitments by helping to manage the School timetable and by delegating and supervising staff where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Good university degree in Economics or Business (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a strong record of developing and improving a department.
  • Outstanding classroom practice, with a passion for engaging pupils and helping them to reach their full potential.
  • Effective communication skills, with an ability to inspire colleagues and to work collaboratively.
  • Commitment to the School’s ethos, values, and the boarding community, with a genuine interest in pastoral care and co‑curricular work.
  • Timetable

    Teach 30 periods a week – 15 one‑hour and 10 ten‑minute lessons – within a full boarding timetable that includes tutoring, co‑curricular activities and support sessions. The School’s timetable runs from 09:00 to 17:30 Monday‑Friday and until 12:50 Saturday.
