Role Purpose

The Head of Content is the guardian of the football club’s story. This role exists to capture, create, and curate compelling content that reflects the soul of the club - its players, staff, supporters, history, and ambition - and to tell that story with authenticity, creativity, and authority across all media platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is keen to help shape how our club is seen and remembered. This is a new position within the business, so the responsibilities are not set in stone. We need someone who can jump in, get things done, and work with the senior leadership team to shape the future of the club.

Main Duties/ Responsibilities
Club Storytelling & Editorial Vision
  • Define and own the club’s content vision, editorial voice, and narrative strategy.
  • Tell stories that go beyond the scoreline — from the first team to the academy, from the dressing room to the community.
  • Balance football journalism with creativity, emotion, and long-term narrative arcs.
  • Protect the authenticity and credibility of the club’s storytelling at all times.
Football Media & Reporting
  • Lead all football-related media output including match coverage, interviews, press content, and official club reporting.
  • Work closely with coaching staff, players, and football operations to ensure accurate, timely, and responsible reporting.
  • Ensure content meets league, FA, and safeguarding regulations.
  • Support press conferences, mixed zones, and media obligations with clear editorial oversight.
Creative Content Production
  • Oversee the creation of written, video, audio, and visual content across all platforms.
  • Drive innovation in formats including long-form features, documentaries, social-first storytelling, podcasts, and matchday content.
  • Champion creative excellence, experimentation, and new ways of telling football stories.
  • Collaborate with photographers, filmmakers, designers, and creators.
Digital Channels & Distribution
  • Lead content strategy across social media, website, app, and emerging platforms.
  • Work closely with marketing to align content with campaigns while preserving editorial independence.
  • Use insight and analytics to refine storytelling and grow engaged audiences.
  • Manage content calendars around fixtures, football cycles, and cultural moments.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Create a culture where creativity, trust, and accountability coexist.
  • Mentor talent and develop clear editorial processes and standards.
  • Manage freelancers, agencies, and production partners.
  • Work alongside Head of Marketing to amplify campaigns through story-led content.
  • Support Head of Commercial with partner-friendly storytelling without compromising editorial integrity.
  • Collaborate with community, academy, and women’s teams to ensure the whole club is represented.
  • Act as a bridge between football operations and external audiences.
Club Accountabilities

1. To comply with all Club policies, procedures and practices and carry out your role diligently and in the best interests of the Club

2. To lead with a proactive, high-performance mindset and actively contribute to a winning culture on and off the pitch

3. To behave in a manner consistent with Club values and policies
