Job description

Minehead Hospital boasts state of the art facilities in a fabulous rural location. We have 19 inpatient beds set out as single rooms and two four bed bays. Each room has an ensuite and overhead hoist system. All modern facilities. We have a specially designed room for end-of-life care. We offer rehabilitation and subacute medical intervention.

We are situated on the coast in beautiful West Somerset, we offer excellent staff facilities including staff dining room with a South facing balcony, large free staff car park and modern changing rooms.

We are looking for a part time Health care assistant with experience of working in a hospital environment to join this established team. Development and training within this role will be offered. There is an expectation that hours are worked flexibly which includes nights and weekends.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking professionals who have experience of working in a team. With the patient at the centre of all you do, you will require good communication skills, be assertive and provide a high standard of nursing care with the support of the ward Sister.

Main duties of the job

To participate in patient care to a high standard. Always be kind and respectful.

To safely use the moving and handling equipment following training and instruction

Carry out and record clinical observations of temperature, blood pressure and pulse, reporting findings to qualified staff.

Maintain standards of accurate record keeping by documenting all care given in the patients record as directed.

Take appropriate precautions to always maintain confidentiality and patient dignity.

Communicate with patients and their families or carers in a receptive and informative manner, at a pace and level that is consistent with the abilities, preference and beliefs of the individual.

Be able to recognise improvements or adverse developments in the patient condition and report to the appropriate member of staff.

Respond appropriately to patient emergencies by summoning qualified assistance. Be proficient in performing practical basic life support, after receiving appropriate training and assessment.

Contribute to the management of anxious, upset, disruptive behaviour.

Contribute to the care of the dying or deceased. Give support and comfort to patients and their carers at times of bereavement and loss.

Liaise with relatives as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy and spoken English (Minimum Level 1 or Functional Skills).
  • Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent experience.
  • Care Certificate or willing to work towards this.
  • Understanding of the health or social care setting.
  • Understanding of the concept of promoting independence.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives, remaining sensitive and empathetic.
  • Good organisational skills, ability to manage own time and plan timed activities for colleagues and individuals.
