Job summary

A leading energy company located in Aberdeen is seeking a Hazardous Waste Chemist to oversee waste classification, testing, and compliance in a busy onshore operation. The ideal candidate will have a background in hazardous waste management and be confident in handling chemical documentation. You will be responsible for ensuring safe and compliant waste handling while collaborating with various internal teams and customers. Full training on plant and equipment will be provided to facilitate success in this key role.

Qualifications

• Background in hazardous/special waste, industrial chemistry, laboratory or environmental roles required.
• Strong understanding of COSHH and safe handling practices essential.
• Experience in chemical testing and documentation beneficial.

Job Title: Hazardous Waste Chemist
Location: Altens, Aberdeen (Onshore)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Monday-Friday 08:30am - 17:00pm (some flex with start/finish)
Salary: Competitive, DOE

The Role

We're looking for a Hazardous Waste Chemist to join a busy onshore operation in Aberdeen. This is a varied, hands-on role covering hazardous/special waste classification, testing, compliance, and technical support across waste management operations.

You'll work closely with Operations, Logistics and Accounts, supporting customers and ensuring waste is handled safely, compliantly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Classifying and managing hazardous/special waste streams
• Logging and checking incoming and outgoing waste (bulk and packaged)
• Conducting on-site chemical analysis (e.g. pH, flash point, water content)
• Identifying non-conforming waste and advising on safe handling
• Completing COSHH assessments
• Advising on waste compatibility, bulking and neutralisation
• Coordinating external laboratory analysis where requiredSupporting waste documentation, stock control and disposal routes
• Liaising with customers, drivers and internal teams
• Attending client sites for waste identification, sampling and support
• Assisting with SEPA returns and compliance reporting

About You

• Background in hazardous/special waste, industrial chemistry, laboratory or environmental roles
• Confident with chemical testing and documentation
• Strong understanding of COSHH and safe handling practices
• Practical, organised and comfortable working on site
• SEPA or regulatory exposure beneficial (not essential)

Full training will be provided on plant and equipment.
