Job summary

Job description

Seeking reliable, responsible, punctual, and enthusiastic guitar and piano tutors to support young music learners of a range of abilities and levels. Both classical or pop contemporary styles welcome.

Opportunity

We are seeking reliable, responsible, punctual, and enthusiastic guitar and piano tutors to support young music learners of a range of abilities and levels. Both classical and/or pop contemporary contemporary styles are welcome. This role will involve delivering high-quality, engaging tuition in guitar and piano, helping learners build confidence, assist in passing exams, helping with technical skills, creativity, and enjoyment in music. You will work within a friendly and inclusive environment that values artistic development and community. You must be able to commit to an agreed time period with consistency and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 lessons for guitar and/or piano learners.
  • Plan and develop engaging learning activities that meet individual needs and abilities using a creative approach of songs and music that students enjoy.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that nurtures student progress.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support ongoing development. Deliver an email summary after each lesson.
  • Contribute to creative performances, or end-of-term events as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with music coordinators to support scheduling, reporting, and learner communication.
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant study and experience in guitar, piano, and music performance.
  • Demonstrable understanding of pedagogy and student-centred practice.
  • Current PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme membership — essential for working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills, with a patient attitude and a commitment to prioritising students’ wellbeing at all times.
  • Passion for teaching music and a commitment to inclusive, creative learning. A dependable individual with strong record of punctuality and commitment to consistent attendance.

  • Type: Temporary / fixed-term (4-6 months; to be agreed).
  • Location: Glasgow.
  • Hours: 5–12 hours per week (to be agreed)
  • Remuneration: £22-£44/h Based on lesson length, experience and qualifications.
  • Start date: Spring 2026 (start date to be agreed).
  • There may be an opportunity to continue in the role on a longer-term basis following the successful completion of the probationary period.
