Overview

Birmingham City is looking for an EDI Assistant on a 6 Month Fixed‑Term Contract. This grow‑your‑own graduate opportunity is ideal for someone looking to begin or build a career in equality, diversity and inclusion, offering the chance to develop practical experience and gain exposure to EDI work across a large and dynamic university.


Responsibilities


  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the EDI Team and EDI Committee, including organising meetings, preparing papers and recording actions.

  • Maintain accurate records, databases and systems to support EDI projects and reporting.

  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations and briefing materials for internal and external audiences.

  • Support the delivery of EDI communications and engagement activity, including maintaining intranet and website content, and assisting with events and campaigns that promote inclusion.

  • Liaise effectively with staff, students and external partners to support EDI initiatives and ensure timely information sharing.

  • Contribute to the preparation of statutory and annual reports by coordinating input and data from across the University.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to gain exposure to a range of EDI activity, learning about policy, data, and engagement work.


Qualifications


  • A degree or equivalent qualification, or relevant administrative experience demonstrating transferable skills.

  • Proven ability to provide effective and proactive administrative support in a busy environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and confidence using IT systems to support effective working.

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

  • The ability to engage confidently with a wide range of people and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.

  • Experience supporting events, communications or engagement activity.

  • Experience updating web or intranet content or using data to support reporting.

Employment details

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
