Job description
Overview

Bromford Flagship is looking for a group design manager to set, lead and maintain the design standards used across our residential development projects. This central role supports our regional teams, championing great design and placemaking while ensuring our design standards and standard house types are applied consistently to enable planning and delivery success.

You'll manage our design standards and standard house type range, achieve NHBC type approvals, and develop and maintain technical specifications that meet current and emerging standards. You will provide technical solutions and support to regional teams throughout the construction process, ensuring that design issues are addressed efficiently, within programme, and on budget.

The role involves regular collaboration with suppliers, consultants, building control, and in-house project teams. You'll also horizon scan for market trends, emerging materials, and regulatory changes to ensure our developments remain at the forefront of quality, efficiency, and compliance. Acting as a visible advocate for Bromford Flagships design standards, you will ensure that all stakeholders can effectively use and apply the information provided.

Responsibilities

This role is permanent and full time. You can be based from any of our main offices in Chipping Sodbury, Tewkesbury, Wolverhampton, London or Norfolk with some travel required.

What we're looking for
  • Experience in residential design, construction, or development, ideally with contractors, developers, or housebuilders.
  • Proven ability to manage the design process, critique layouts, and challenge architectural and engineering designs to ensure the highest quality outcomes.
  • Degree-qualified in Architecture, Urban Design, or a related discipline (HND/HNC with relevant experience will also be considered). CDM 2015 duty holder training is essential.
  • Strong technical knowledge of new-build residential methods, building regulations, engineering and architectural design, and software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Viewpoint/Conject.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, stakeholder management, and communication skills across all levels and disciplines.
Additional Requirements
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for business purposes.
  • Ability to complete a basic DBS and consumer check.

This is a fantastic opportunity to influence the quality, consistency, and innovation of Bromford homes, supporting our regional teams in delivering exceptional residential projects. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our standard designs, improving processes, and ensuring that every home we build meets the highest standards of design, sustainability, and usability.

We're part of Bromford Flagship. Our purpose is clear: enable everyone to thrive. Our vision is that everyone has a safe, affordable home, and with over 80,000 homes across east, central, and southwest England, we have the scale, expertise, and commitment to keep building for the future.

The closing date is 30 September with first stage interviews taking place via Teams on 9 and 10 October.
