The Role – Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant

As a Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting a Year 7 pupil with muscular dystrophy
  • Helping the child in and out of their wheelchair (manual handling training provided)
  • Offering personal care when required
  • Assisting with day-to-day activities in class
  • Providing academic support as well as standard Teaching Assistant duties

This Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant role is ideal for graduates in Psychology, Counselling, or related fields who are looking to gain practical SEN experience before progressing into careers such as Educational Psychology, Counselling, or Support Work. As a Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support a particular child with their day-to-day needs as well as offering emotional support, and supporting in-class as a Teaching Assistant to ensure equal access to education.
