Job description

At Ramboll we passionately believe that Building Physics and Building Performance modelling is an integrated part of the building services design process.

To deliver best practice in Building Physics and Performance modelling throughout the business, we are now looking for enthusiastic Building Physicists at junior level to contribute to our modelling work within our UK Building Performance team ideally in Manchester, though we will consider other locations in the UK for the right candidate.

We have an ever-increasing portfolio of clients looking to better understand how to make the most of their buildings, both throughout design stages and in operation and we are looking for talented individuals with experience of dynamic thermal simulation compliance modelling (e.g. Part L, thermal comfort, TM54 etc) and potential awareness or experience of detailed HVAC component level modelling and NABERS UK assessments.

Working as part of a team, you will be expected to deliver your own project work, and to become technically proficient in IESVE and/or SAP, as well as other modelling software packages.

We offer a highly supportive environment in which you can develop and grow in your role. For the right candidate there is the opportunity to progress rapidly, with increasing management and mentoring responsibilities and support to achieve industry Chartership.

Inviting bright minds

Do you want to push the boundaries of your profession and develop your excellence in an open, collaborative and empowering culture? We work to create a sustainable future and our inspiring projects and innovative solutions aim to set the standard among our peers. You will join a global company that has been growing successfully since its founding in 1945. Together, we lead and leave a positive impact on societies, companies and people around the world.

Our Building Services teams across the UK have a strong focus on technical delivery and an excellent understanding of client care, focused on Low and Net Zero Carbon building design. You will be an important part of a close-knit team working on a wide variety of projects across the UK and internationally. We have a supporting and collaborative culture and enjoy what we do! We are looking for like-minded and personable people to strengthen our team and there is rapid progression on offer for talented candidates. We have a current focus on digital and parametric design and believe that the future of our industry lies in working smarter not harder.

Your key attributes and responsibilities will be:

  • Assist with the production of energy strategies for planning applications (including GLA), carrying out Part L compliance assessments using IESVE or SAP.

  • Help model operational energy use within buildings to limit the energy performance gap, including accreditation with NABERS UK.

  • Stay up to speed in all relevant regulation.

  • Understand and incorporate industry specific assessment methodologies and guidelines

  • Be able to work using your own initiative with supervision.

  • Demonstrate good attention to detail and show pride in the work produced.

  • Have an ability to present your work succinctly to others, to inspire the confidence of design teams and clients, and then use this to strengthen internal and external relationships.

  • Have a keen interest in or experience using digital and parametric design tools. We seek engineers that fit with our culture and have an interest or experience in working digitally by coding, working in Rhino/Grasshopper and relevant programming languages.

Your starting point for constant growth

From the moment you join Ramboll, we will support your personal and professional development so that you grow with the company. For this role, we believe your starting point is:

  • Being a graduate of an appropriate engineering degree and ideally have proven and demonstrable track record in their professional discipline.

  • Have proven experience in all aspects of building physics, including building energy modelling and compliance analysis using IESVE or SAP.

  • Have a good knowledge of passive design, LZC technologies and ‘net zero’, and use this to influence all aspects of building design.

  • Having a CIBSE / IET / IMechE Engineering Council accredited honours degree.

  • Working towards IEng or CEng status.
