A local government council in Wigan is seeking a Governing Board Clerk to provide administrative support and governance advice. This role involves setting agendas, attending meetings, and ensuring compliance with statutory frameworks. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills and experience in educational governance or minute taking. The role may involve flexible working, including evenings and community engagements, and supports work from home when possible.

As a Governing Board Clerk, you will act as the single point of contact for several Governing Boards, providing effective administrative support including the setting of agenda, attendance at meetings and minute taking, including for panel meetings.
You will provide advice and support to Governors and Trustees, Headteachers and Executive Leaders about matters relating to school and academy governance. You will respond to telephone and e‑mail enquiries and provide front line, day to day independent advice on governance issues and ensure that each Governing Board operates within the relevant statutory framework.
You will have excellent organisational and time management skills and be a good team player who can work equally well alone with minimum supervision. You must have a flexible approach to your working hours as the majority of Governing Board meetings take place during the early evening and involve travelling to schools across Wigan and neighbouring boroughs.
You will have outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, and not be afraid to have courageous conversations. Experience of working in school governance or education and experience of minute taking would be advantageous.
