Golf Operations & Membership Sales Manager
Sherfield Oaks Golf Club seeks a driven and customer‑focused Golf Operations & Membership Sales Manager to lead front‑of‑house golf operations, deliver exceptional service, and drive membership growth. This role reports directly to the General Manager.
Role Purpose
To ensure the smooth, efficient, and profitable operation of all golf‑related activities at the club, while leading the Golf Operations team and owning the membership sales pipeline. The role requires strong operational leadership, commercial focus, and excellent customer engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily Golf Operations Management
- Oversee all day‑to‑day golf operations to ensure smooth course flow and an exceptional member and guest experience.
- Optimise tee sheet utilisation and enforce Get Golfing’s pairing policy to maximise capacity and revenue.
- Manage, schedule, and motivate Golf Operations Assistants (predominantly casual/zero‑hours staff).
- Ensure effective use of Get Golfing’s “Golf Manager” software for bookings, member services, reporting, and communication.
2. Retail & Equipment Management
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and presentation standards across retail merchandise, apparel, and equipment.
- Manage rental equipment—including buggies, trolleys, and clubs—ensuring safe operation and completed liability forms.
- Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness and readiness of buggies and operational equipment.
3. Customer Service & Member Experience
- Lead and train the operations team to deliver consistently high service standards.
- Act as a primary point of contact for members, resolving queries and complaints promptly and professionally.
- Support and collaborate with the General Manager, Captains, and Competition Committee to deliver competitions, events, and member communications.
4. Golf Days & Societies
- Manage all golf day and society bookings from arrival to completion.
- Deliver a well‑organised and value‑for‑money experience that encourages repeat business.
- Maximise ancillary revenue through rental equipment, retail sales, and add‑on packages.
5. Financial Management & Revenue Optimisation
- Monitor and report on key revenue lines including green fees, retail, and equipment rentals.
- Manage labour costs and adhere to agreed monthly budgets.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability through operational efficiency and improved service delivery.
6. Membership Sales & Client Relationship Management
- Own the full membership sales process from initial enquiry to onboarding.
- Deliver timely, personalised responses to enquiries and conduct face‑to‑face tours and sales meetings.
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual membership revenue targets.
- Build strong relationships with individual and corporate members to support retention and referrals.
7. Lead Generation & Market Engagement
- Proactively generate leads via outreach, networking, and community engagement.
- Represent the club at local, industry, and community events.
- Conduct outbound calls when required to drive new business.
8. Market Research, Reporting & Marketing Support
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and local market opportunities.
- Provide regular sales and performance reports to the General Manager.
- Use CRM tools to track leads, conversions, and client interactions.
- Contribute to the creation of marketing materials, campaigns, and promotions.
Person Specification
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in golf operations management and membership or commercial sales.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to build rapport and manage challenging situations.
- In‑depth knowledge of golf, including rules, etiquette, and industry trends.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities with a focus on operational excellence.
- Experience managing budgets, interpreting P&L data, and making commercially‑driven decisions.
- Proven record of achieving revenue targets and improving sales performance.
- Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Proficient with management software, CRM systems, and general IT tools.
