Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Headquartered in the heart of Liverpool and working with partners across the globe, we continue our mission to transform lives through research, education, and collaborative partnerships.

We are now seeking to appoint a Global Safeguarding Manager to provide strategic leadership and direction for safeguarding across LSTM and its international hubs. This is a pivotal role in shaping and embedding a safe and respectful environment for research participants, community members, staff, students, and partners. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead for LSTM and its subsidiary companies, you will play a central part in developing, implementing, and maintaining organisational systems that protect children and adults at risk from harm.

Working closely with the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Culture and Integrity and the Strategic Safeguarding Oversight Committee (SSOC), the postholder will ensure strong governance, effective safeguarding processes, and a positive safeguarding culture across all areas of LSTM’s work.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Providing strategic leadership for safeguarding across LSTM and acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Developing and implementing safeguarding policies, procedures, risk assessments and the safeguarding strategy.
  • Managing safeguarding incidents, ensuring appropriate reporting, escalation and organisational learning.
  • Supporting global hubs, safeguarding focal points and partner organisations to embed good practice.
  • Producing safeguarding reports for the Executive Team and Board of Trustees.
  • Leading safeguarding training for staff and contributing to postgraduate teaching.
  • Ensuring safeguarding is integrated into research, education and due diligence processes.

The successful candidate will possess :

  • A postgraduate degree (or equivalent experience) and relevant safeguarding qualifications or willingness to complete them.
  • Strong experience in safeguarding policy, implementation and risk assessment.
  • Excellent training, communication and relationship-building skills across diverse contexts.
  • Ability to manage complex issues, influence stakeholders and produce high-quality reports.
  • Knowledge of PSEAH, inclusive practice and survivor-centred approaches.
