Global Head of Product – R&D, Compliance & Innovation (UK Based)

Location: Frome, Somerset (On-site)

Sites: UK/US with expansion into EU

Company: Sweet Bee Organics

Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Sweet Bee Organics is a rapidly growing organic wellness and skincare company redefining what “clean” truly means. With operations in both the UK and US, we craft high-performance, non-toxic products that merge ancient wisdom with modern science—from award-winning magnesium balms and botanical skincare to innovative adaptogenic blends and wellness formulas.

We are seeking a Global Head of Product to lead our R&D, formulation, and compliance functions. This is a pivotal role at the heart of our business, responsible for driving new product innovation, ensuring regulatory excellence, and scaling our formulations from lab to market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the entire R&D and Product Development team across skincare, body care, and consumable wellness (food supplement) categories.
  • Oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle—from ideation, formulation, and testing to launch and post-market review.
  • Conduct ongoing regulatory and compliance audits of our full product range to ensure all formulations, labels, and marketing claims meet UK, EU, and US standards (ASA/CAP, CTPA, FDA, etc.).
  • Liaise with regulatory consultants, safety assessors, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless compliance documentation and product registrations.
  • Develop and maintain robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for formulation, testing, and scale-up.
  • Manage the transition of lab-scale formulations to full production, ensuring consistency, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Stay ahead of emerging ingredient trends, scientific research, and regulatory changes, identifying opportunities for product innovation and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, operations, and leadership to align product pipeline with brand strategy and market growth goals.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, scientific integrity, and compliance excellence within the product team.
Requirements
  • Degree (MSc or higher preferred) in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Biochemistry, Food Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience in formulation and R&D leadership within both cosmetics and food supplement industries.
  • Deep understanding of UK/EU and US regulatory frameworks, including cosmetic safety assessments, INCI labelling, novel food considerations, and supplement compliance.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of taking multiple products from concept to successful market launch.
  • Ability to design, implement, and oversee quality control and compliance systems across a diverse product portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; able to collaborate cross-functionally and manage a small but dynamic team.
  • Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive—comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Desirable
  • Experience working with organic or natural certification bodies (e.g., Soil Association, COSMOS).
  • Knowledge of transdermal formulations, functional botanicals, and bioavailable actives.
  • Experience managing relationships with UK and US regulatory consultants and testing labs.
  • Passion for wellness, sustainability, and creating meaningful, science-led products.
