Job description

If you’re looking for a career where you can make a real impression, join HSBC and discover how valued you’ll be.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an individual to join the team as Global Country Risk Manager.

The Country and Sovereign risk unit is a Global team, operating independently of the Global Businesses and the Risk Approval process.

It has a primary role in providing Senior Risk and Business executives with consistent and independent views and recommendations on all aspects of country/sovereign risk and more generally on macroeconomic issues that could impact HSBC activities.

As the demands of Regulators and our own internal Risk requirements have increased, the unit has developed and owns the methodology for the Group level country risk framework (including appetite) for individual countries, and plays an important role in country, regional and global stress testing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to the Global Head and Deputy Head of Country Risk and Sovereign risk, through views-based, forward‑looking analysis of key global country risk developments.
  • Write and oversee country risk assessments and enhance the quality of country risk and macroeconomic analysis.
  • Develop and improve team communication with senior stakeholders on global country and sovereign risk developments, ensuring communication is concise, insightful and value‑added.
  • Ensure that the Sovereign and country models remain fit for purpose, including endorsement by the regulator noting their impact on specific portfolios and on other assessment models.
  • Contribute to the development of stress testing scenarios and risk modelling frameworks.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a senior Country and Sovereign role within a bank or external rating agency.
  • Proven track record of identifying forward‑looking, out‑of‑consensus views on country risk across a range of geographies globally.
  • Strong expertise in macroeconomics, particularly in relation to Country and Sovereign risk.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex views and developments in a concise, insightful way to senior stakeholders involved in strategic decision making.
  • Proven experience of supporting analytical and communication skills development of team members.

The role location will be London.
