General Medicine LED SHO - (ST1-2 equivalent)

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAH) is looking to appoint a Trust grade doctor to work within General Medicine. This post gives the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to experience General and Geriatric medicine in a busy DGH setting with daily Consultant supervision, and serves as a stepping stone to training rotations such as ACCS or IMT.

You will be expected to take an active role in the department, participating in daily ward and board rounds, implementing early assessment, diagnostics and clinical management of patients in all areas. This role is ward‑based only and has no on‑call commitments (Monday to Friday 08:00‑16:00). Full induction will be provided.

Main duties of the job
  • Co‑ordinate high‑quality person‑centred care of patients on the ward, ensuring that all patients admitted have a diagnosis and treatment plan, and receive a daily medical review.
  • Ensure the appropriate discharge of patients, including timely paperwork to the GP to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, especially in relation to documentation.
  • Arrive on time for duty and be available for work from the arranged start time.
  • Comply with Trust policies, including upholding the Trust’s values and behaviours.
  • Actively participate in any appropriate steering or project groups.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team, working and communicating effectively to deliver high‑quality patient care.
  • Liaise between nurses, other clinicians, patients, relatives and operational colleagues to support safe care.

  • Knowledge and experience of geriatric medicine and UK acute medicine and ambulatory care
  • Evidence of personal practice in all areas described by the RCP curriculum
  • Evidence of implementing relevant evidence‑based medicine
  • Participation in relevant national audits
