Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years in a similar accounting role.
  • Experience in a PE‑backed, turnaround, or carve‑out environment is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a service, engineering, or construction‑related business is a plus.

Marmon Lift Recruitment is supporting a leading PE‑backed independent provider of elevator and escalator services in the UK in the search for a skilled and experienced General Accountant based in Swanley.

Now operating as a stand‑alone, high‑growth business, our client is undergoing an organic growth stage. This General Accountant role is a key appointment within the Finance function, reporting directly to the Finance Director and supporting core accounting activities including general ledger management, reconciliations, journal postings, and the month‑end close.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
  • Support the monthly and year‑end close process.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.
  • Process intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and support treasury activities.
  • Work closely with AP / AR teams to resolve queries accurately and on time.
  • Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors as required.
  • Assist with VAT returns, tax compliance, and other regulatory filings.
  • Contribute to improving and documenting accounting processes and controls.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support the Finance Director.
Ideal Candidate
  • Part‑qualified or qualified by experience (AAT / ACCA / CIMA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years in a similar accounting role.
  • Experience within a PE‑backed, turnaround, or carve‑out environment is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a service, engineering, or construction‑related business is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confident communicator and effective team player.
