The Future Steps Team work with parents who have had one or more child removed from their care. It is a multi-agency team with a focus on addressing the gap in support experienced by parents between having a child removed from their care and any future pregnancy. Through an intense programme of support, it aims to break this cycle and give women, and men the opportunity to reflect, tackle destructive patterns of behaviour, and to develop new skills and responses that can help them create a more positive future. The aim will be to provide ongoing, flexible and person-centred support focussing on responding to a parents individual needs, some of which will have already been identified but not fully met during pregnancy and care proceedings.

  • Address the complex needs of women, and men, through intensive support, to enable change in their lives, and ultimately reduce the numbers of children being removed into care
  • Work systemically in delivering a relationship based programme where frequency, tenacity and creativity are central
  • Manage a caseload of complex cases and adopt a flexible and creative approach
  • You will need to have:
    • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in related subject e.g. Education, Health, Social Care, Criminal Justice
    • The achievement of English and Maths or equivalent to level 2 of the National Qualification Framework
    • Minimum of 2 years post qualifying, recent experience in a relevant field e.g. Education, Social Care, Criminal justice
  • Recent experience of working with individuals who present with a range of complex needs (mental health challenges, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence)
  • Demonstrate an ability to create rapport and build effective relationships
