Job description

Full-Stack Software Engineer - PHP

MCS Group are delighted to be working exclusively with a well-backed, fast-growing tech company in Northern Ireland that powers one of the region's most widely used online platforms. With major modernisation projects underway and continued investment, they're expanding their engineering team with two new hires - with a strong emphasis on solid PHP full-stack experience.

If you enjoy variety, modernising legacy systems, building new products, and working in a collaborative, close-knit team where your work has immediate impact, this could be a great fit.

The Role

You’ll join a core engineering team of five, working closely with the CTO. The work includes maintaining core systems, refactoring older components, and building new features across the platform. You’ll also get exposure to app development and new dealer-focused analytics tools.

This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone who is confident in PHP as their primary skill and comfortable working across the stack.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and deliver full-stack development with a strong focus on PHP (main priority).
  • Help modernise and refactor existing systems into more maintainable, scalable components.
  • Build new features across web and mobile - Greenfield!
  • Support ongoing platform improvements, including new dashboards, analytics tooling, and new product lines.
  • Assist with light server administration tasks (monitoring, alerts, logs).
  • Troubleshoot data flow issues, debug production problems, and support internal teams where needed.
  • Contribute ideas in a small, collaborative engineering environment.
Tech Stack

Must-have:

  • Strong PHP experience (production-level, full-stack capable)
  • React (any front end framework)
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
Nice-to-have / used in the environment
  • Laravel
  • React Native (bonus only)
  • Basic server admin exposure (monitoring, logs, alerts) highly advantageous!
Who They’re Looking For
  • 3+ years' commercial experience (mid → senior/lead levels).
  • Strong PHP fundamentals and hands‑on full‑stack capability.
  • Comfortable working in a small team and wearing multiple hats.
  • Clear communicator able to explain ownership and contribution to past projects.
  • Natural problem‑solver who doesn't rely heavily on others to complete tasks.
Why Apply?
  • Join a stable, well‑invested company with long‑term growth plans.
  • Work on a platform used by thousands of customers daily.
  • Strong culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible hybrid environment and a modernising tech roadmap.
  • One stage interview process!
Package & Benefits
  • Private healthcare for you, spouse, and dependants.
  • Death-in-service benefit.
  • £250 annual self-development allowance.
  • MacBook Pro + accessories.
  • Monthly hack days, team lunches, company days, and regular socials.
