The school oversees the planning, recruitment, education, and assessment of all foundation trainees in London. There are currently around 2,200 Foundation trainees in London across 5 Integrated Care Systems (ICS).

The Deputy Foundation School Director (FSD) will be responsible for the management of one of five regions in London (NWL, NCL, NEL, SWL, SEL), aligned with an Integrated Care System. Responsibilities include:

  • Development of excellent working relationships with the relevant Trusts in the Integrated Care System.
  • Providing expert support and guidance to the London Foundation Training Committee (FTC).
  • liaising with relevant Medical Schools, Health Education London, GP schools and Trust Foundation Training Programme Directors, and the General Medical Council (GMC) in the management and quality control of foundation training through the School.
  • Participating in national committees and meetings regarding foundation training as required.
  • Taking a Pan London role within the Foundation school, overseeing one of five workstreams: Community (including GP), Simulation and Teaching, Support for Less Than Full Time doctors and doctors returning to training after absence, faculty development, and International Medical Graduates (IMGs). The workstream will be agreed after discussion with the appointed postholder.
