About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Food Safety Manager to join and lead an Environmental Health team on a 12-month hourly contract. Based in Lancashire, you’ll lead food safety operations, manage inspections, and ensure compliance with national standards to protect public health across the borough.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and oversee the council’s food safety enforcement programme
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions under food safety legislation
  • Provide expert advice to food businesses and internal stakeholders
  • Respond to food-related incidents and coordinate outbreak control measures
  • Ensure compliance with FSA codes of practice and contribute to statutory reporting
  • Support and mentor Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers
  • Represent the council at regional and national forums
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Environmental Health and EHRB Registration (or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in food safety enforcement within local government
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of food safety legislation and best practice
  • Ability to manage complex investigations and deliver results under pressure
