Job description
About The Role

Are you an experienced Fluvial Geomorphologist looking to take the next step in your career? Do you want to work on projects that shape and restore rivers, wetlands and catchments? Are you keen to balance fieldwork with technical reporting and design in a supportive, expert team?

We’re looking for a Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist to join our Water Management division. This is a role where you’ll use your technical expertise to deliver a wide variety of projects across sediment management, wetland hydrology, river and riparian restoration, surface water management and natural flood management. It’s a great opportunity to develop your career further, combining hands‑on field surveys with technical analysis and high‑quality reporting.

Success in this role means you’ll play a key part in delivering assessments and restoration projects, taking on responsibility for project tasks, and contributing to larger multidisciplinary programmes. You’ll have the chance to develop design skills in river restoration, grow your project management and client‑facing experience, and expand into new areas such as hydraulic or sediment transport modelling. With around 30% of your time in the field and 70% desk‑based, you’ll enjoy a varied workload while being supported by APEM’s highly experienced consultancy and field teams.

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • BSc or above in a relevant discipline (e.g. geomorphology, hydrology, catchment management, environmental science)
  • Strong understanding of hydromorphological forms and processes
  • Field experience such as restoration appraisal, fluvial audits, physical habitat surveys or sediment sampling
  • Excellent numerical analysis skills, including GIS and data analysis packages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised, adaptable, and able to work to tight deadlines

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience in river restoration optioneering and design
  • Hydraulic modelling (e.g. HEC‑RAS, Flood Modeller)
  • Sediment transport or wetland/catchment modelling
  • Experience in project management or tender input
  • Field hydrometry or statistical analysis (R)
  • AutoCAD skills

At APEM, you’ll be joining a company that values technical excellence, flexibility and wellbeing. You’ll have the opportunity to work on complex and meaningful projects, develop your expertise, and collaborate with specialists across multiple disciplines.

You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them.
