Qualifications

As a Fixed Asset Accountant within the Finance team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective reporting of our £6bn Capex plan in AMP 8. This highly visible position involves working closely with key investment committees and supporting the business to ensure assets are financially commissioned on time and accurately reported in our systems. You will be at the forefront of maintaining best practice and statutory compliance, combining technical expertise with business acumen.

You will be responsible for statutory reporting, compliance with accounting policies, managing accounting systems, and supporting audits. The role requires a proactive approach to continuous improvement, particularly in Health & Safety, and offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including Finance Business Partners, Project Managers, and External Auditors.

Key responsibilities
  • Own, develop, and produce reconciliations, reports, and schedules for asset accounting and investment programme expenditure, meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Act as the first point of contact for asset and contribution accounting, overseeing 120,000 assets with a gross book value of £10bn.
  • Complete period‑end close down for fixed assets and project systems, and support Group Tax with HMRC submissions and enquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with the Capitalisation Policy and interpret accounting standards for capital expenditure, assets, and grants.
  • Manage the Asset Accounting and Project Systems modules in SAP and Tagetik, providing direction on configuration and enhancements.
  • Prepare and provide complex information for statutory and regulatory audits, ensuring data is accurate and auditable.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health & Safety, maintaining compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.

What does it take to be successful?
  • Appropriate higher qualification (Degree, HNC, etc.), preferably in finance.
  • Professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, etc.).
  • Detailed understanding of IFRSs and regulatory accounting standards related to capital expenditure, asset accounting, and revenue reporting.
  • Strong financial awareness, especially regarding capital investment, capitalisation policy, and grants.
  • Proven prioritising and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to challenge constructively and deliver information clearly and concisely.
