Overview

To provide a comprehensive and high quality finance business partnering service to service lines. To promote innovation and improvement by providing expertise and analysis to inform good financial decision making and optimal use of resources. University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is a dynamic health service provider with more than 6,500 staff, serving Plymouth, South West Devon and South East Cornwall.

We are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking individual to join an established Finance team as an interface between finance and operations, influencing day-to-day decisions and supporting strategic and business planning across the Trust. This includes demand and capacity planning, understanding service line viability, benchmarking, developing transformational savings plans and supporting the production of large business cases for capital and/or revenue investments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and business planning advice to Service Line and Care Group Management teams.
  • Encourage and influence Service Line Management Teams to support cost-effective decision making using strong persuasion, motivation and negotiation skills.
  • Investigate complex financial queries on income and expenditure, conducting regular analytical reviews of the Service Line financial position, forecasting income, and developing models with activity projections and case mix considerations.
  • Interpret complex financial data and advise on financial risks to ensure budgets are achievable and owned by Service Line Managers and Budget Holders.
  • Assist and advise Service Line Management Teams in executing plans to achieve performance targets within allocated resources.
  • Oversee accuracy and integrity of Service Line financial information, including service line reporting and reference costs.
  • Identify business opportunities and threats from market analyses and work with service lines to determine financial impacts and mitigations.
  • Review monthly contract monitoring with service lines to ensure robust income capture and develop robust activity and income forecasts based on demand, RTT requirements and capacity constraints.
  • Benchmark Service Lines against similar hospitals using nationally recognised data (e.g., GIRFT, Model Hospital) and advise on improvements in collaboration with Service Line Management teams.
Qualifications
  • Professionally Qualified Accountant.
  • Ability to manipulate, analyse and interpret data, and to communicate clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in NHS/Trust accounting or equivalent financial environments is desirable.
