Apprenticeship Standard : Level 4 – Professional Accounting Technician

Department: Finance

Salary: £25,500 pa plus benefits

Programme overview

Schroders’ two-year apprenticeship programmes give school and college leavers a hands‑on introduction to investment management and the opportunity to develop key skills, gain professional qualifications and build an industry network. We have a wide range of opportunities across our business.

The Team & the Role

On this programme, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of two Finance teams located in Horsham. You will be part of the Wealth Service Centre Accounting team within our Wealth Finance department, and the Purchasing, Payables and Reconciliations Service Centre which serves the majority of Schroders companies. You will rotate between the two teams during your 2-year programme.

The Wealth Service Centre Accounting team manages the financial reporting requirements for our Wealth Management subsidiaries. You will be part of a team of six, managing the accounting for four of our Wealth management subsidiaries and Global Wealth management AUM reporting.

The Purchasing, Payables and Reconciliations Service Centre facilitates the administration of the buying process from requisition through to payment, along with the management of related queries throughout the spend lifecycle. In addition, we manage Accruals, Prepayments, Fixed Assets and provide bank reconciliation services to the Financial Control teams. You will be part of a wider department of 23 that is split into 4 teams, gaining experience of all.

What you’ll do
Wealth Service Centre Accounting
  • You will help with the preparation and posting of accounting entries;
  • Perform daily controls on the income statement, balance sheet and off-balance sheet transactions;
  • Help with the financial reporting;
  • Perform Balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Help with the annual statutory financial statements;
  • Supporting the business with ad-hoc requests;
  • Participation in projects as they arise.
Purchasing, Payables and Reconciliations Service Centre
  • You will ensure suppliers are setup, queries are managed and Spend requests are raised in line with our Service Level Agreements (SLA’s);
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing cashflows in our bank accounts are managed daily;
  • Support the team with Accruals, prepayments and managing the fixed assets register;
  • Ensure invoices / Rebates are approved and paid inline with supplier payment terms;
  • Perform Balance Sheet Reconciliations;
  • Participation in projects as they arise.

You will join as an apprentice as part of the Investment20 / 20 programme. You will have opportunities to meet and network with trainees and apprentices across the industry, as well as participate in technical skills training, socials and insight events.

Qualifications required
  • A-levels (or equivalent) in any subjects – no minimum UCAS points required.
  • Level 2 in both English and Maths (GCSE grade A
  • to C or equivalent) for those undertaking a level 3 or higher apprenticeship.
