Job summary

An international battery supplier is seeking a Field Service Engineer to cover the Greater Manchester and Cheshire regions. The successful candidate will conduct diagnostics and repairs on lead-acid batteries, perform scheduled maintenance, and provide technical support. Essential experience in a similar role is required as well as relevant engineering qualifications. This position offers a salary between £27,000 - £31,000, a company vehicle, and generous benefits including a pension scheme and holiday entitlement.

£27,000 - £31,000 + Van

Seymour John is supporting an international battery supplier to the Manual Handling Equipment (MHE) sector who seek to recruit a field-based engineer covering the Greater Manchester and Cheshire region. In this role you will report to a Team Leader and work as one of a team of twelve nationally based engineers.

The role:
  • Diagnosis and Repair: Identifying and fixing faults for lead‑acid batteries.
  • Component Replacement: Replacing critical components like battery plugs, leads, and connectors to prevent safety hazards such as thermal events or acid leaks.
  • Maintenance: Performing scheduled inspections and maintenance to extend battery life and prevent unexpected failures. Topping and cleaning batteries.
  • Technical Support: Providing customer support and potentially training on proper battery care and safety protocols.
  • Documentation: Producing accurate service reports.
Experience:
  • It is ESSENTIAL that you have previous experience in a similar role working with lead acid / lithium batteries ideally for use within the MHE and FLT sectors.
Certifications:
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds).
Logistics:
  • A full UK driving licence is typically required, as the role involves travelling to customer sites.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • The role will be home based, and the candidate must be able to work on their own initiative.
  • A company vehicle (Ford Transit) and mobile phone are provided.
