Field Service Engineer

Location: Remote, with travel

Salary: £35 to £45k, DOE + Van & Benefits

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

About us:

VL Test Systems Ltd (VLT) is a leading supplier of high-quality Commercial Vehicle testing equipment with extensive experience in the Commercial Brake Tester market.

Field Service Engineer - The Role:

The Field Service Engineer will service equipment sold by VLT to customers across the UK. The role is home-based with regional travel, including overnight stays as needed. Responsibilities include inspecting, cleaning, servicing, calibrating, testing equipment at customer sites, attending breakdowns, fault finding, repairing equipment, and advising customers and the service office of potential issues. The engineer must follow company policies, project a professional image, and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, completing method statements and dynamic risk assessments at hazardous sites.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Document engineering activities clearly at each stage.
  • Liaise with customers, service administrators, and colleagues to coordinate services and resolve issues.
  • Review schedules to optimize site attendance and reduce travel time.
  • Ensure availability of necessary stock, tools, and documentation.
  • Follow method statements for inspection, cleaning, removal, service, calibration, and fault finding.
  • Complete documentation and certificates accurately and timely.
  • Report potential issues to management.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, providing workload updates and improvement suggestions.
  • Train customers on equipment usage.
  • Report safety issues and site conditions, including sending photos.
  • Engage in ongoing development and training.
Qualifications, Experience & Profile:
  • Experience or willingness to learn in Commercial Vehicle Testing and DVSA procedures.
  • Experience in engineering service, calibration, or commissioning roles.
  • Background within the Commercial Vehicle sector.
  • Numerate with good communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Motivated, dynamic, and presentable.
  • Excellent timekeeping and ability to liaise with all levels of staff.
  • Clean driving license preferred.
  • Flexible working hours.

Note: A six-month probationary period during which training will be provided by an experienced engineer.
