Job description
EYFS Teaching Assistant

The successful EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils across the Early Years Foundation Stage, providing high-quality classroom support, 1:1 assistance, and small-group work.

This role also includes some PPA cover when the class teacher is out of the classroom, making it ideal for an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is confident and proactive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support teaching and learning across the EYFS as an EYFS Teaching Assistant
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and delivery of engaging EYFS activities
  • Cover the class during PPA time when required as an EYFS Teaching Assistant
  • Support children's personal, social, and emotional development
  • Promote positive behaviour and a nurturing learning environment
  • Help assess progress and contribute to observations and records
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating EYFS setting
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures as a trusted EYFS Teaching Assistant
Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (extremely desirable)
  • Proven experience working as an EYFS Teaching Assistant
  • Confidence supporting pupils across Nursery and Reception
  • Experience covering classes during PPA time is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of the EYFS framework
  • Patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
