Description

Torbay Assessment & Intervention Service are currently looking to appoint both a Full Time permanent Social Worker and a Full Time Social Worker on a 9 month Fixed Term Contract.

Do you have the right skills in delivering intensive support to families to enable them to provide the very best nurturing environments to children to enable them to thrive?

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker specialising in Assessment and Child Protection to join our dedicated team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well‑being of children and families within our community.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in social work practices and a deep understanding of child welfare policies and regulations. Your role will involve conducting thorough assessments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and developing comprehensive intervention plans to support at‑risk families. You will be tasked with not only identifying and addressing immediate concerns but also empowering families to achieve long‑term stability and well‑being.

You will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, case management expertise, and the ability to navigate complex emotional scenarios with empathy and professionalism.

Excellent recording and report writing skills and IT are required for this role.

As an A&I Social Worker, we need to be a team player, a good communicator and a skilled and self‑motivated professional, with the ability to work flexibly. As well as managing a caseload, the role involves being part of a duty rota to support the running of the service.

  • Has a developed knowledge of Social Care policies and procedures, and makes themselves continually aware of new Child Care legislation and National Guidance.
  • Awareness of effective management practices.
  • Thorough understanding of current legislation and guidance and developments in services to children young people and families.
  • Demonstrates an advanced and detailed knowledge of child development, attachment theory, anti‑discriminatory practice, the framework for assessment of children in need and their families, social work theory and methods.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Social Work degree qualification, e.g., Dip SW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent.
  • Membership of Social Work England.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
  • Significant post qualification experience of working with children and families in the context of current legislation and government initiatives.
  • For Social work professionals, experience of complex Child Protection cases and Court proceedings under the Children’s Act 1989.
