Job description
About the Role

We are pleased to offer an exceptional opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon to join one of our clients’ welcoming and dedicated teams in South West Cornwall, two well‑loved practices set in the heart of Cornwall’s stunning landscape. In this role, you will take responsibility for delivering outstanding patient care while upholding the highest standards of clinical, regulatory and operational excellence. You will also embody our commitment to being consistently present and supportive for clients, patients and colleagues.

Location

Life in this part of Cornwall offers an enviable blend of beauty, culture and community. Redruth is a historic town with a rich heritage, Victorian architecture and a growing arts scene. With countryside on its doorstep and the coast just a short drive away, it provides an excellent base for exploring Cornwall’s dramatic beaches, rugged coastline and endless walking trails. St Ives, by contrast, is celebrated as one of the country’s most picturesque seaside destinations. Its crystal‑clear waters, sandy beaches and artistic heritage create a relaxed coastal atmosphere, while the practice enjoys views across the bay and is only a short stroll from both the beach and town centre. For anyone seeking a balance between meaningful work and an exceptional lifestyle, these two locations offer something truly special.

Practices

Redruth practice is spacious and well equipped, offering four consulting rooms, two theatres, ultrasound, dental and digital x‑ray capabilities, as well as separate dog and cat isolation wards. It is accredited as a Silver Cat Friendly Clinic, demonstrating a commitment to providing a calm and reassuring environment for feline patients. The practice also benefits from on‑site parking and a tranquil garden for staff to enjoy. St Ives is a compact, efficient and welcoming surgery with two consulting rooms, a fully equipped theatre and prep area, an in‑house laboratory, digital x‑ray, ultrasound, dental facilities, and dedicated dog and cat kennels. With a spacious reception area, staff room and convenient parking, it offers a smooth, well‑organised working environment.

Role Responsibilities

You will be joining teams known for their loyalty, warmth and professionalism. Redruth is led by two highly engaged Partners supported by a skilled and experienced nursing team, including an exceptional Head Nurse and longstanding support staff who take pride in their work and contribute to the practice’s strong sense of community. St Ives is home to an experienced Head Nurse, a Registered Veterinary Nurse and a Client Care Assistant, all of whom have built trusted relationships with their clients and are committed to delivering an excellent standard of care. You will also become part of a wider group of seven knowledgeable vets across our three‑practice network, several of whom are currently working towards certificates in Small Animal Medicine, Cardiology and Orthopaedics. This collective expertise creates a stimulating atmosphere where collaboration, mentorship and ongoing learning are actively encouraged.

Requirements

They are looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon—ideally with at least three years of UK experience—who is confident working independently at times, particularly at St Ives, and comfortable handling routine surgery, diagnostics and consultations. If you enjoy building long‑term client relationships, working closely with colleagues and contributing positively to a supportive team culture, you will thrive in this role.

Benefits

This is a permanent full‑time position with a 40‑hour working week across four days, offering an excellent work‑life balance and the opportunity to fully embrace Cornwall’s relaxed, outdoor lifestyle. Weekend commitments are limited to one Saturday in three, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. There are no out‑of‑hours or bank holiday duties. The role provides a blend of time between Redruth and St Ives practices, giving you the chance to experience varied caseloads, maintain continuity of care and work alongside two established, caring teams.
