A primary health care provider in the UK is looking for an Experienced Phlebotomist to join their team. The role involves performing venepuncture, managing laboratory samples, and assisting with various clinical duties. Mid Sussex Health Care has an exciting vacancy for an Experienced Phlebotomist at our large, 22,000 patient practice, GMS Teaching practice, which operates across 3 sites. We have a diverse range of nursing skills within The Practice Nursing Team providing a full complement of nursing services. You would be working alongside a friendly, experienced team. We are looking for a motivated and skilled Phlebotomist who loves the challenge of working in General practice.
Venepuncture
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
Requesting pathology tests
Ability to record accurate clinical notes
Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to Nurse or GP.
Testing and processing urine specimens
Extended Duties (if already trained - or later where training required).
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
ECG recording INR

About Us
At Mid Sussex Health Care, we are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated Experienced Phlebotomist to join our team due to the expanding patient population. The practice is a friendly urban and rural GMS practice located in the South East.
Our list size is 22,000 patients and we have 3 different sites, all within 3 miles of each other. We have 11 GP partners, 1 non-clinical partner, 2 salaried GPs, ANP and a nursing team of Phlebotomists, HCAs and Practice Nurses. We are high QOF achievers and are actively engaged with our local ICB.
In addition, we have a wide range of specialist roles such as Physios, Clinical Pharmacists, Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators and Mental Health Support Worker, providing a diverse service to our patients.

Job summary:
Working under the direct supervision of the NurseManager and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines andprotocols, the Phlebotomist will assist the practice clinicalteam in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Duties and responsibilities:
Blood pressure monitoring
ECG recording
Urinalysis and the processing andmanagement of other laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoringand recording
Clearing and re-stocking consultingrooms
Preparing and maintaining environmentsand equipment before, during and after patient care interventions includingassisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
Assisting in the assessment andsurveillance of patients health and well-being
Helping to raise awareness of health andwell-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection andcollation of data on needs related to health and well-being

In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description,the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating topatients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. Health & Safety:
The post-holder will implementand lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and othershealth and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, the Practice Health & Safety manual, and the PracticeInfection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but willnot be limited to):
Using personal security systems within the workplace accordingto practice guidelines
Awareness of national standards of infection control andcleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and goodpractice guidelines
Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimensprocess including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and cleancontainers, storage and transport arrangements
Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) for the Practice including provision, ordering, availability and ongoingcorrect usage by staff
Responsible for hand hygiene across the practice
Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient careprotocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice
Active observation of current working practices across thepractice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities,ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs areidentified, escalating issues as appropriate
Identifying the risks involved in work activities andundertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinicaland patient process
Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills,and initiate and manage the training of others across the full range ofinfection control and patient processes
Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation toinfection control, ensuring that provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipesetc are sufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack offacilities to be escalated as appropriate.
Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use,storage and disposal
Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining workareas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiationof remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsiblemanagement
Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health andsafety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generallyclean, sterile, identifying issues and hazards / risks in relation to otherwork areas within the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenanceof general standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation (whereappropriate) with other sector managers
Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum twiceannually)
Routine management of own team / team areas, and maintenance ofwork space standards
Waste management including collection, handling, segregation,container management, storage and collection
Spillage control procedures, management and training
Decontamination control procedures, management and training, andequipment maintenance
Maintenance of sterile environments
