We're looking for a skilled, visionary Experiences and Programming Manager maternity-cover to help lead the way in creating experiences that truly put our audiences and communities first. You'll be used to working across a range of different properties, developing experiences that fit these differing opportunities. You'll help us ensure that every visitor feels welcomed, included, and inspired, by driving innovative programming that reflects the voices and needs of our communities. As part of the Portfolio Leadership Team, working with the General Manager and other colleagues, you will contribute to the strategic priority to End Unequal Access and Inspire Millions.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

The advertised salary is inclusive of an Inner-London weighting allowance of 4,465 per annum (Prorated if you're part-time). What it's like to work here You’ll be working across the 4 different and exciting smaller properties of the Ham House portfolio in London - Fenton House, 2 Willow Road, Carlyles' House and The Red House.

What it's like to work here

This is an exciting time to join the team to help develop our ambitious, important and engaging work across these 4 very different properties and communities. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll be part of a dynamic property leadership team, driving our work in ending unequal access and inspiring millions. You'll work closely in collaboration with colleagues across all 4 properties. Alongside this you will build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, foster strategic partnerships that support innovation and participation, to co-create experiences that reflect local relevance and organisational priorities. As part of the smaller properties team you will support with ad hoc duty management and on call cover when required, including weekends and bank holidays.

What you'll be doing

Based at Fenton House in Hampstead but needing to work across all 4 properties over the working week, you will be developing and expanding the work we have started to find diverse ways to connect with audiences and communities, using these 4 dynamic properties as your backdrop. We're committed to creating welcoming, engaging, inclusive and impactful experiences for everyone - be that hosting the Houseproud events at Fenton House or local community Diwali celebrations at Red House. By maintaining consistently high standards of welcome, participation and storytelling, you will enhance visitor satisfaction and foster memorable experiences that will enable a broader audience to connect with and care for our places.

Minimum Criteria
  • Ability to develop medium- to long-term plans that align with organisational goals and audience needs.
  • Strong people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and team motivation.
  • Understanding of how to use data and research to shape inclusive, relevant, and engaging visitor experiences.
  • Knowledge of storytelling, interpretive planning, and curatorial practices that bring heritage to life.
  • Ability to work across departments and with external partners to co-create experiences and share learning.
Additional criteria for all other applicants
  • Strong people management and leadership skills, being comfortable working with colleagues from all levels
  • Knowledge of the external cultural, creative and commercial programming sector
  • Knowledge of how to develop a visitor journey whether that be shaping the signage and orientation on site or supporting communications to all our supporters.
  • Experience in project management, including managing budgets and delivering experiences to budget and a timeline
