Bodleian Humanities Library, Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford OX2 6AH and other Humanities libraries as necessary, The Bodleian Humanities Library is seeking an enthusiastic Evening & Weekend Supervisor to join the Reader Services team in this newly opened library, supporting excellent service delivery across evenings and weekends. The Bodleian Humanities Library supports research, teaching and learning across a wide range of disciplines and provides access to lending collections, offsite material and extensive electronic resources. You will supervise and oversee the work of evening and weekend library assistants, acting as the senior member of staff onsite. You will ensure high service standards, provide training, respond to reader enquiries and handle the practical operation of the library during your shifts. You will also carry out circulation tasks, support stock management projects and ensure effective communication with daytime colleagues. This is a permanent part-time post, working an average of 13 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is: Saturday 08:50-17:10 (including a 40-minute unpaid break), Sunday 17:00-21:15, and one Tuesday 17:00-21:15 every four weeks. This role involves lifting, carrying and transporting books safely.
You will have previous experience of Reader Services work in an academic library, including use of library management systems, online catalogues and e-resources. You will be an experienced and customer-focused library professional with a good general level of education to A-Level or equivalent. You will be an effective communicator with excellent spoken English and strong IT skills, confident working both independently and as part of a team. You will also have experience training others in a customer-services setting and be able to carry out manual handling tasks safely.
