Job description

Cornwall Marine Network (CMN) is looking for experienced and passionate tutors to deliver 1-1 Functional Skills Maths and/or English support to adult learners and apprentices across Cornwall. This is a freelance, flexible role, ideal for tutors who enjoy working closely with individuals to build confidence, develop essential skills, and help learners reach their goals.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver 1-1 Maths and/or English Functional Skills tuition (Entry Level to Level 2) either in learner’s homes or other agreed venue
  • Adapt learning to suit each learner’s needs and pace
  • Monitor and record progress clearly, accurately and timely
  • Work closely with the CMN team to ensure quality and consistency
  • Responsible for the management of an allocated cohort of learners through the supporting, monitoring, recording, tracking and regular reporting of learner progress towards the achievements.
  • Ensure the successful and timely completion and progression of learners within allocated caseloads.
  • To undertake and administer all paperwork related to learning and training for learners within allocated caseload, maintaining all course and related documentation, including course/lesson plans and responsible for the completion of the Individual Learning Plan for each learner within the allocated caseload.
  • To work with other colleagues as required and directed, to promote the achievements.
  • Attendance at caseload reviews and standardisation meetings with Training Delivery and Quality Manager.
Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Suitably qualified Teacher (PGCE, Level 3 Education and Training Award, L3 Teaching qualification).
  • Minimum qualifications Level 3 (A level) including English and Maths minimum at GCSE.
  • Experience of delivering English and/or Maths to adults (minimum 2 years).
  • Flexible, adaptable, able to work on own initiative with can-do-attitude.
  • Strong communication and IT skills
  • Based in Cornwall
  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience of teaching learners with additional support needs or SEND.
  • Ability to work during school holidays
Additional Information
  • Freelance role, paid at £24.00 per hour, £12 per hour for travel time and 45p per mile
  • Flexible schedule – work around your availability
  • Weekdays only – no evenings or weekends
  • In-person delivery in Cornwall, with some online sessions
  • Must have enhanced DBS and recent Safeguarding & Prevent training or be willing to obtain
